Vivid Photo and driver Roger Hammer added a world record to their list of accomplishments on Friday

Roger Hammer sent Vivid Photo right to the front and the S J’s Photo gelding never relinquished his position. Vivid Photo trotted a brisk opening quarter in :26.4 as the longshot Sir Perseverance (Self Possessed) took a pocket trip in second, and the 4-5 favorite, Sand Vic (Mr Vic), tracked in third.

Vivid Photo maintained his lead down the long Colonial Downs backstretch, getting the half in :55.2 and barreling into the turn with a 1-1/4 length lead over Sir Perseverance. Sand Vic loomed just two and a half lengths back.

Brian Sears brought Sand Vic first-over at the 5-16 pole, and it appeared as if the rivals would hook up in another thrilling stretch duel, reminiscent of Sand Vic’s narrow victories in the Breeders’ Crown this summer, and the Allerage Trot just six days before.

Vivid Photo was simply too strong today for any kind of stretch duel, never letting Sand Vic within a length and a half through a final quarter in :27.1.

“When I saw him coming I decided to put the throttle down,” Hammer said after the race.

Sand Vic was two lengths back, in second, and Earl’s Charm K (Earl) finished fastest of all to get third, four and three-quarter lengths behind Vivid Photo.

The 1:50.2 clocking equaled Tom Ridge’s record for the fastest trotting mile at any size track.

The win was Vivid Photo’s fourth of the season for Hammer and co-owner Todd Schaedel. Vivid Photo also pushed his earnings past the $1.9 million mark.
